Leadership Presence
Leadership skills comprise 50% of creating value. The other ingredient is powerful presence. It’s your presence (not your authority) that compels people to follow you. When your powerful leadership presence influences people, your team moves beyond mere compliance to true commitment. This means going beyond the old views of a vague executive presence. Now there is a specific path, a blueprint for how to develop what I call an “influential presence.”
Presence is largely misunderstood. Some think of it as charisma, or communication skills, or dressing for success. Some think you are born with it, or just claim, “I know it when I see it.” All of these understandings fall short. Presence is something you can develop. Great leaders work on it every day.
The Influence Puzzle: 6 Aspects of Powerful Executive Presence
After 15 years of coaching executive leaders, I’ve seen what separates the best leaders from the good leaders. My approach is to help you master the 6 aspects of powerful executive presence so that you create an influential presence. The starting point is realizing that success depends more on your ability to influence than your officially designated authority.
